Billingshurst ‘disappointed’ with three-point weekend

Billingshurst managed to take a ‘disappointing’ three points from their 127-run defeat away to Preston Nomads on Saturday.

Hurst skipper Ben Williams bemoaned a number of dropped chances – including four or five at unbeaten centurion Stuart Faith.

He hit 104 from 133 balls batting at five after Nomads lost the toss and were inserted. Dan Phillips and Aaron Phillips made 33 and 55 respectively, while Tim Moses added 41 in their total of 261-6.

Billingshurst opener Stuart Barber hit 15 before they were reduced to 31-4 as Carl Simon (5-51) did the early damage.

A top-score of 76 from Jay Hartard gave their total some respectability, while Williams added a late 19 in their reply of 134.

Little has changed at the foot of the table with Billingshurst remaining sixth, although Middleton’s win has moved them up to a point behind them. Hurst are nine points clear of the relegation places with Roffey and Cuckfield still to play.

Williams said: “Obviously Preston Nomads are a better side than us, but it is a bit disappointing only to take three points out of the game when we were aiming for ten.

“To do that we thought we would stick them in as we thought that was our best chance to do that as we were missing a couple of batsmen.

“We put down a few chances as well and they played a lot better than us. We need to focus on the next two weeks now.

“It’s hard at the moment as there are five teams down and I don’t know who to cheer on from who is down there.

“I just think it will be from who turns up in the next two weeks and plays the best will come out of it.”

“It’s been a weird old season as a whole, so many ups and downs and we play well a couple of weeks then let off, so hopefully we can play well for the next two weeks.”
