Cricket teams make promising starts

The area’s leading East Sussex Cricket League clubs are well placed after the third round of matches.

Iden lie second in the embryonic Division One table, while Robertsbridge, Rye and Battle are second, third and fourth respectively in Division Two.

Iden won 38 runs in a low scoring game away to Ditchling on Saturday. David White top-scored with 38 as Iden totalled 127 batting first. He and Gary Rens then took three wickets each to dismiss Ditchling for 89 in reply.

Robertsbridge triumphed by seven wickets at home to Laughton. James Pexton took 7-31 to skittle the visitors for 71 and Matt Wilkinson’s 35 not out took Robertsbridge comfortably past the winning post.

Rye lost by 25 runs away to Newick despite restricting their hosts to 141-9 batting first with three wickets each for Sandun Dias and Craig Pierce. Rye were all out for 116 in reply.

Battle prevailed by 38 runs away to Hailsham, who were limited to 152-9 batting first. See Friday’s Observers for full reports.
