Eagles suffered a 44-run defeat at the hands of Pagham at a damp Cherry Lane.

After winning the toss and asking the visitors to bat, the teams were off the field in the sixth over when a heavy shower swept though.

After some hard work from the players, the game restarted.

Stuart Hanks (28) Stuart Rutter (20) put on a solid opening partnership of 46 – but once they were out the Eagles bowlers managed to get though the batting line and dismissed the visitors for 113 in 44 overs.

Atif Ali (3-32) and Anjum Zafar (3-21) were the pick of the bowlers.

Eagles’ reply got off to the worst start possible when captain Jibran Khan was out in the first over.

Some tight bowling by Pagham’s Peter Cottrell (7-40) and Michael Hales (3-26) meant the hosts were out for 69. At the halfway point of the season the team know they have under-performed but they also know they have the capability and the skills to turn the form around in the second half of the season.

They will hope to get off to a good start as they take on Ifield at Cherry Lane on Saturday, starting at 1pm.

Eagles registered their seventh win of the season as they beat local rivals Crawley by three wickets at Southgate.

The home side batted first and were all out for 102 in 46 overs Fallah Uddin (4-26) and Amir Malik (3-24) were the pick of the bowlers.

Joril Wildman top-scored with 46.

Eagles took just 26 overs to get to their target, helped by a quickfire 63 from opener Rashid Mehmood.

Kashif Naveed was the top bowler with 5-50 as Eagles claim the win and keep their push for promotion on track.

Eagle’ captain Nasir Khan was happy to get a win after a last week’s game was called off due to the weather.

Khan said: “We have had a good first half of the season but we know that there are still a lot of games to play and we will be trying to keep this good form going into the rest of the games.”
