Chairman Stephen Hodgson was excited by the news and was hopeful that the addition of Machan will help move the club forward at a time when a large number of very talented junior players are making their way into all three senior Saturday teams.

Hodgson said: “In recent years the focus for the club has largely been about the kids and developing a strong junior section.

“Junior cricket will remain at the heart of all that happens at the club but it has now become necessary to focus our attention on the senior section.

"We need to ensure that all players who represent the club at senior level are given the opportunity to continue to develop as players.

"I believe the appointment of Matt, who brings with him a wealth of experience and enormous enthusiasm is an essential part of that journey.”

Machan was impressed by the vision laid out by the club and is looking forward to the challenges ahead.

"When I first heard the visions and goals of what the club is looking to achieve over the next few years, I was instantly excited and knew this was an opportunity I could not turn down.

"I believe that we are all about to go on a very exciting journey and I can’t wait to get started.”
