They were bowled out for 150 away to champions Roffey, who recovered from losing two early wickets to get home by eight wickets. Dilshan De Zoysa was the only Priory batsman to fire, scoring 53.

Gillespie is hopeful they can put the defeat behind them quickly. Sides in the premier division and division two switch this week to red-ball win-lose-or-draw timed games, having played pink-ball win-lose games for the first few weeks.

Gillespie told us: “It was disappointing to lose but Roffey were excellent. They bowled well and took wickets throughout our innings and kept us way below par on not the easiest wicket.

“Getting them 26-2 gave us a glimmer of hope but Rohit Jagota was just on another level and made it look so easy and he was obviously well supported.

“I think it’s one to forget about and we’re really looking forward to a home game tomorrow against Haywards Heath.

“We’ve only played one in four at home and it’s a chance for us to try to create some momentum and also a fresh start with the change of format – so we’ll be doing our best to put in a good performance and win the game.”
