Henfield continue to climb table with scalp of leaders Mayfield

Henfield claimed a huge scalp and gave their promotion hopes a push with a 36-run win over leaders Mayfield on Saturday.

Adam Scott’s side posted 127 after being put in to bat and a superb bowling display then saw them skittle the Division 4 frontrunners for just 91.

It was only their second defeat of the campaign, while Henfield climbed up to fourth with their seventh victory of the season.

They are a point behind Slinfold in third and 25 behind second-placed Crawley.

Batting first and opening, Henfield’s Scott topscored for his side with 36 runs from 56 balls. Brighton Mugochi added 20, but both were dismissed by the dangerous Mamo Pretorius (5-30) with the score on 72-6.

Martyn Jepson hit 26 and William Culver added 14 not out as the home side were bowled out in the 33rd over.

In reply, early wickets from Culver (2-12) and George Stewart (3-30) had the visitors struggling at 35-5, with the only score of note, Terry Lucas (14) also out.

A sixth-wicket stand of 46 between Sam Hyne (28) and Robert Sharma (14) took Mayfield to 81-6 and with a chance, but with both players scalps of Tony Brugnoli (4-26), the tail collapsed to 91 all out in the 25th over as Mugochi claimed the final wicket.
