Historic Haywards Heath victories show how far the club have come

And first team skipper Callum Smith declared that these superb results show how far Heath have come as a club.

Haywards Heath’s 1st XI secured their first Premier Division victory of the season on Saturday.

Heath took a three-wicket win at Mid Sussex rivals Cuckfield CC with the last ball of the game.

Heath’s 2nd XI (145 all out) beat Plumpton & East Chiltington CC (71 all out) at home by 74-runs in Division 5 Central while the 3rd XI (128-1) eased to a nine-wicket home win over Balcombe CC 3rd XI (127 all out) in Division 11 Central (North).

And the 4th XI (49-1) capped a superb day for Heath with a consummate nine-wicket triumph at home to Ardingly CC 2nd XI (46 all out) in their first Division 12 Central (North) fixture.

Haywards Heath 1st XI captain Smith said: “(It was) a great day for the club with four wins.

“The club has taken huge strides in the last five years and it’s showing now on and off the field.

“We will look to build on that and keep improving.”

Haywards Heath 1st XI will look to record their second Premier Division win of the campaign at home to Eastbourne CC this Saturday.

Eastbourne beat Premier Division title-holders Roffey CC at home by two wickets at the weekend.

The south coast outfit are also the current holders of the Sussex T20 Cup and won last season’s supplementary August Cup competition run by the Sussex Cricket League.

Ahead of the game, skipper Smith said Haywards Heath were full of confidence after securing their first Premier Division triumph.

He added: “We have tough one this week against certainly one of the top sides in the league.

“We had a cracker with them in the August Cup last year.

“Eastbourne are a great young side but we go into the game full on confidence.”
