MCC head of cricket John Stephenson said: “Congratulations to James and Devon on their selections for the MCC Universities combined squad. Last season was another strong year for the MCCU scheme, and competition for places was extremely high – so they should be very pleased.

“MCC is delighted that it can continue to support the development of young cricket talent, by delivering the third successive pre-season training tour to the UAE for the MCC YCs and combined MCCU side. The format has proven to be very successful in previous years, and I know that there is a real sense of excitement amongst both squads ahead of the trip. The opportunity to play cricket overseas and in different conditions is essential early-on in a player’s career, so this tour provides a perfect opportunity for 30 talented young players to gain valuable experience.”
