Horsham name World Cup winner and England star in Sussex Slam squad for match with rivals Roffey - but it's just a wind-up

Horsham CC named an England star and ICC Cricket World Cup winner in their squad for tonight's Sussex Slam clash with fierce rivals Roffey CC - but not all was as it seemed.

The Lions announced on Twitter that England and Sussex fast-bowler Jofra Archer was part of their 12-man squad for their T20 Slam match with the Boars.

But, fortunately for Roffey, Horsham confirmed that the announcement was just a wind-up, and that the mercurial bowler would not be taking part.

After the announcement of the Lions' squad, the Sussex Slam Twitter account posted: "The esteem in which The Slam is held just keeps on growing.

"If you can’t play in the most popular T20 competition in the world, then opt for the second."

Mark Nash, who will play for Horsham tonight, added: "Why am I number 12? My SLA (slow-left arm) is far better than Jofra Archer!"

Roffey also saw the funny side, posting on Twitter: "Luckily Slam skipper Ed Barnes likes pace on the ball.

"Will be interesting on the speed gun who is quicker, Max Furber or Jofra Archer."

Furber then replied: "Right arm wheels at your service!"

Archer has been the scourge of the Boars in past encounters between the two rivals.

The 26-year-old took 4-32 in the Lions' 171-run win over Roffey in a SCL Premier Division clash back in 2018.

Tonight's Sussex Slam clash between Horsham, minus Archer, and the Boars kicks off at 6pm at Cricketfield Road.
