The Sussex Cricket League Premier Division had become a two-horse race but Horsham’s second straight loss, plus another win for Preston Nomads over the weekend has given the defending champions a 49-point cushion at the top.

“That’s the league over for sure,” a disappointed Gallagher conceded. “You can’t lose four games and expect to win the league.

“That’s it done for another year, what we have to now do is keep the pressure up and take second place.”

On a good batting deck visiting East Grinstead were bowled out for 217, Ollie Graham with 50 and Will Adkin 45, while Horsham spinner Michael Munday took his customary five wickets.

The host’s reply failed to really get off the ground until, with only three wickets in hand captain Gallagher and Jamie Thornley (31) put on a strong stand. But when Gallagher went for 63 the final two wickets soon followed giving East Grinstead victory by 28 runs.
