‘Team Andy’ chose to bat ffirst against ‘Team Lewis’.

Opening bowlers Matt Anthony (1-35) and James Bellett (0-23) bowled the first few overs superbly but it was positive start for the batters as Rob Wilkinson (60) and Tom Carpenter (32) put on 80.

Matt Dawber (55*) and Simon Dunning (51*) produced an incredible power hitting display. Both retired not out.

Cameos from Tom Hicks, Christy Walder and Andrew Anthony kept the run rate ticking over and Team Andy finished on 288-4. There was some nice spin bowling at the end by Tom Mills (1-23).

In the reply, opening bowlers Andrew Anthony (1-9) and Warren Headland (2-39) were hard to get away.

Lewis Williams (37) brought some control to the innings with some great shots. Accurate bowling in the middle overs from Ed Brook (3-47) and Omar Pathan (2-25) saw Shibin Abraham (64) coming to the crease.

He attacked from the start, putting the bowlers under pressure, and he reached 50 in just 36 balls.

Brook bowled him with a brilliant ball to leave Team Lewis 171-9.

Sam (23) and Tom Mills (5) showed what they can do with the bat before a good catch from Wilkinson ended the game with Team Lewis 205 all out. Team Andy won by 83 runs.

It was a great day’s cricket with some exceptional bowling, batting, and fielding .

The IQ Builders Merchant MoM was Ed Brook. The Roots Ground Maintenance MoM was Shibin Abraham.

Glynde and Beddingham 2s v Pevensey

Pevensey braved the road works and a howling wind to record victory against Glynde 2s in a well spirited pre-season friendly.

Batting first, Pev’s top three all got in then out as A Bishop (4-39) and the particularly unlucky A Riaz (1-20) opened well.

At the 15-over mark it was 53-3 but Alex Borsoi and Fred Wallis put on a game-changing partnership of 101 to get the away side ahead, a position they never lost.

Borsoi timed the ball to all corners, particularly enjoying clearing the short leg side boundary, and while Wallis was happy to play the supporting roll, he still pulled two short balls for maximums of his own.

When Wallis was lbw for 40, the lower order supported Borsoi to get to his maiden ton, which he did in style, hitting the penultimate of the innings over long on for another six, to end on 102* off just 95 balls, Pev ending with 197-8.

In reply, only D Howard (68*) came to terms with a probing Pevensey attack as the visitors kept Glynde behind the run rate throughout. Caleb Laloo, Guy Moore, Fred Wallis and Josh Perry took one each, and after a difficult first spell, Max Harrfrey returned the best figures of the innings with 3-29.

Pev’s ground fielding was excellent, with anything loose chased down even into the last overs, and this left Glynde only able to make 168-7. Pev won by 30 runs in a good practice for the league which starts in two weeks.

Pevensey 2s v Rotherfield 1s

A blustery day greeted the players and layers were a prerequisite.

Pevensey won the toss and decided to bat. On a wicket that was relatively difficult to score on, a number of Pevensey players contributed to a score of 174-6.

Dan Long 19, Steve Hoadley 23, Chris Pedroza 34 played their part but the stand-out innings was an unbeaten 67 from Dom Simes.

Rotherfield’s innings started with a blur of wickets. Josh Dowsett (1-23) and Ollie Moore were too good for the top order, Moore taking 4-9.

The opening bowlers were backed by the rest of the attack with notable performances from father and son Steve and Cam Hoadley taking three wickets between them. Jon Elmes (63) held things up but Rotherfield ended on 154-9.

Newick v Buxted Park

Newick CC 215 all out/Buxted Park CC 219 for 6

Buxted won the toss and elected to field. From the start Newick opener Joe Waylett launched a blistering attack, scoring 108 from 46 balls.

This included 18 fours and five sixes. Matt Sawyer (32) and Scott Warren (34) added to the total of 215.

Dom Heater shone for Buxted, taking five wickets for 43 runs from his eight-over spell.

Buxted passed the score in their 34th over; Harry Marchasi top scored with 66no with Sam Marchasi (48) and Tom Clift (45).

Bexhill CC 179-3 / Winchelsea 178-8

Winchelsea CC travelled to Bexhill for their first Sunday friendly fixture of the season and on a sunny but bitterly cold afternoon 10-man Winchelsea were asked to bat first in a 35-over match.

Winchelsea got off to a steady start with both opening batsmen punishing any wayward deliveries before Callum Preece (12) was caught off the bowling of R Crouch, who went on to claim 3-15 off six overs.

Roger Tidyman continued to play a solid innings as wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end. Harry Rhys-Jones (10) was the only other batsmen to reach double figures before being caught off the bowling of L Haffenden (1-38 off five overs).

Tidyman carried his bat, finishing on 94 as Winchelsea reached 178-8 off their 35 overs.

J Webster (2-19 off 5 overs), W Harvey (1-21 off 5 overs) and C Phillimore (1-35 off 6 overs) were the other Bexhill wicket takers.

The Bexhill opening batsmen looked to attack the bowling from the off, hitting the ball hard in an opening partnership of 79.

H Strugnell (17) was bowled following the introduction of Harry Rhys-Jones, who then claimed another quick wicket to finish with figures of 2-17 from three overs.

P Crittenden was bowled by Anmol Pandey (1-18 from twoovers) having scored 87. F Holland (24 not out) and S Barden (23 not out) saw Bexhill to victory in the 20th over.
