In a high-scoring game as Cricketfield Road, Roffey eased to an eight-wicket win against rivals Horsham in a high-scoring game.

The hosts after being put into bat, made 170-5, a total that had Roffey skipper Josh Fleming worried at the halfway stage.

Horsham stand-in skipper James Johnson led the way with 81 not out, as Nathan Roberts added 23 and Thomas Haines scored 17.

But Roffey made easy work of the chase, stacking up 172-2 in just 16.1 overs. Fleming scored 25 and Jagota’s 112, before Mike Norris (18*) and Ben Manenti (11*) saw them home.

Fleming said: “We weren’t at our best in the field but we were ok. Horsham batted excellently and James Johnson played a great innings to bat through for 80 odd.

“I thought 170 was above par at half-time so was a little worried but we knew the wicket was good and if we batted well we had a great chance.

“Rohit’s innings was one that only he is capable of playing. He was pretty unstoppable on Sunday and made it easy for us guys to just bat around him and knock them off pretty comfortably.”

Horsham skipper Sam Atffield, who couldn’t play due to a dislocated finger, added: “We batted really well and played well on a good wicket.

“JJ (James Johnson) batted really well for 80 odd, but anything can happen in 20/20 cricket. You only need a couple of bad overs or bad balls even.

“I think we batted sensibly and pretty well to be honest. Going into the bowling, we looked to be positive and restrict them as much as possible, but Rohit played a brilliant innings.”

Roffey now host holders East Grinstead and Fleming added: “The T20 is a competition we believe that we can win. If we can overcome EG in the next round we will be pretty confident about our chances.”
