Lindfield ‘take flight’ at Mayfield as the second and fourth XIs record fine wins

This week Lindfield entertain St James's Montefiore CC on the Common, with the game getting underway at 12.30pm.

LINDFIELD CC 2ND XI

In yet another rain affected match, Lindfield CC 2nd XI were asked to bat first by visitors Rottingdean CC 2nd XI in Division 6 Central.

Lindfield started cautiously before James Colvin (13) was bowled in the 11th over with the score on 36.

Fellow opener Rob Minter was then joined by Jayson Butler and together then put on 31 runs before Minter was out for an entertaining 31.

James Scott then glided to the crease and with Butler put on 158 for the third wicket at which point Scott on 94 was caught on the boundary in the 40th over.

The batsmen had crossed and incoming batsman Adam Wright went to the non-strikers end with four balls to play.

Butler drove the next ball back to bowler who deflected the ball onto the non-strikers wicket to run Wright out.

Lindfield finished their 40 overs on 228-4. Butler remain undefeated for a well-crafted 74.

For Rottingdean, the pick of the bowlers were James Breeze (1-23) and Marvellous Zaloumis (1-24).

Rottingdean started their innings slowly and rain stopped play after nine overs with the score on 28 without loss.

When play resumed a recalculated target of 206 from 36 overs was set. Rottingdean soon began to lose wickets with opening bowlers Ross Pedley (1-23) and Butler (2-19) in fine form.

They were well supported by the evergreen Steve Pearce (2-35) and the youthful Luke Sowton (2-46) who reduced Rottingden to 122-7 in 24.2 overs before the rain came down in buckets to ensure no further play was possible.

As more than 20 overs had been bowled Lindfield were declared winners by 13 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis formula.

For Rottingdean, Hassan Khan (44) batted well whilst in the field the returning Joe Newcombe took three catches for Lindfield, one of which you would pay to see.

This week Lindfield travel to top-of-the-table Ditchling CC, with the game beginning at 1pm.

LINDFIELD CC 3RD XI

Lindfield CC 3rd XI played at Colemans Hatch CC in Division 9 Central and came away with a fortunate abandonment.

Having lost the toss on a green damp wicket ,Lindfield soon found themselves in all sorts of problems at 37-7.

Thanks to some rear guard action from Kevin Chamberlain (ten) and some intelligent batting from Jack Pierpoint (34) they managed to push the score towards respectability.

Along with Scott Clark (16) Asha Hinley (12) Lindfield’s innings eventually closed at 95 all out in the 35th over.

With heavy clouds gathering Colemans Hatch sensed the need for urgency and raced to 67 in the 11th over before the heavens opened, resulting in an abandoned game.

This week Lindfield are at home to Ardingly CC at 1pm.

LINDFIELD 4TH XI

It was Lindfield CC 4th XI who won by seven wickets in their much-awaited local encounter against Haywards Heath CC 4th XI to maintain their 100 per cent record in Division 12 Central (North).

After inviting the visitors to bat first, Lindfield’s bowlers James Campbell (3-33), Henry Foulkes (2-22) and Thomas Chittilappily (2-33) soon started taking wickets on a regular basis.

Despite an entertaining 40 by Chris Threlfall the Heath score of 140 all out always seemed to be insufficient on the new square at Hickmans Lane.

The Baker brother’s again dominated the batting to ensure a good start to the innings. Dan scoring a perfectly timed 67 and Hayden a hard-hitting 47.

Together with some lusty hits from James Burnage (14) Lindfield ran out comfortable winners to remain top of the table.

This week Lindfield travel to play Ardingly CC 2nd XI, at 1pm, hoping to continue their fine form and keeping their fingers crossed for some sun.
