Littlehampton seal a second straight win

The win was Littlehampton’s second in a row and third from eight matches this season. They sit fourth in the table and are 22 points behind joint leaders West Chiltington & Thakeham, who they host on Saturday.

Littlehampton were asked to bat first and made 195 for four from 49 overs, as Ally James hit 68 and Michael Askew finished 63 not out.

Pulborough were then all out for just 125 in reply as Chris Heberlein took four wickets and Ryan Budd claimed three.

Skipper Askew is now hoping that his team can continue to climb the table and said: “It’s a really tight league and I’ve said before that whatever team goes on a decent run will end up winning the division.

“We have played really well in the previous two matches. It’s important that we try to kick on for the remainder of the season.

“Next up we face West Chiltington who are joint top, so if we can avoid defeat in that one we will be in a good position.

“The wicket was very difficult on Saturday, so Ally and Michael deserve great credit for the way they played.

“All of the bowlers were queuing up to get a bowl on that wicket and we managed to get them out fairly cheaply in the end.”

Littlehampton found it tough going in the opening overs with James Askew (15), Tom Lee (14) and Harry Standing (eight) falling to leave them 46 for three.

James and Michael Askew shared a fourth-wicket stand of 126 as James hit 68 from 108 balls, with ten fours and one six, and Askew struck 63 not out off 81 deliveries, with nine fours.

Littlehampton made early inroads into the Pulborough top order as Thomas Nairn (nought) and Tharaka Waduge (nought) were out early to leave them ten for two.

Imran Khan did offer some hope for his side as he made 34 before he was fourth man out, with the score on 66.

Littlehampton continued to pick up wickets regularly and although Shane Fletcher hit 28, they were all out for 125 in 35.4 overs.

Heberlein finished with 4-44 from 15 overs, Budd took 3-27 off nine overs and James Askew picked up 2-15.
