Oakmeeds crowned district champions

‘Bouncebackability’ was Mr Vincent’s order of the day and to that extent the year 9 boys served up a sumptuous meal. Having won the toss, Captain Joe Hartley put Oakmeeds into bat. After a sluggish start, Max Seaton batting at no. 2 carried on his recent good form with a steady 38 runs accompanied along the way by Joe Hartley with a punchy 44 runs. Oakmeeds finished with a big total of 133 runs and went to tea in buoyant mood.

Oathall started their batting in equally sluggish form and the game seemed destined for an unexciting finish and a comfortable Oakmeeds victory. However The Oathall no.4 batsmen ‘Leon’ proved to be a game changer with a string of big hits, which propelled Oathall’s score and made for a very competitive match.

With one ball remaining Oathall needed a 6, but George Mercer already having bagged 4 wickets was in scintillating form and denied the opponents at the end, leaving Oakmeeds triumphant as the 2-time winners of this Trophy.
