Park buoyed by better showing

Although the Telham-based side suffered its second successive defeat with a narrow loss at home to Findon, Park performed much better than they did on the opening day against St James’s Montefiore according to captain Colin Ayres.

He said: “I would say it was a lot better. There’s still a couple that need to step up to the mark, but on the whole I was really pleased. The fielding was good, the bowling was good; there was a marked improvement and I think we can hold our heads up high.”

Having totalled 205-9 batting first, Park were looking good when they reduced Findon to 110-5 in reply. But their hopes were scuppered by a sixth wicket partnership of 76 between Bradley Bridson (56 not out) and John Rogers (50).

“The game was very tight until they had that decent sixth wicket stand,” continued Ayres. “I think there was a missed stumping and a dropped catch, and if those two had been taken, I think the result could’ve been a lot different. There’s a very fine line dividing a win and loss.”

Park are fourth-from-bottom of the fledgling league table, albeit only six above bottom-of-the-table Glynde & Beddingham, who they will visit tomorrow (Saturday) with a similar side to that of last weekend.

The match will see the renewal of rivalries between two of the East Sussex Cricket League’s leading lights from the mid-naughties, since when both clubs have made excellent progress into the second tier of the county set-up.
