Priory’s trip to Roffey in the Sussex Premier League was abandoned due to rain, making it two uncompleted matches in successive weekends at the start of their 2013 league campaign.

After the previous weekend’s home game against East Grinstead was called-off without a ball being bowled, Priory did at least get started on this occasion only for play to be halted at the end of the 31st over.

Priory were 127-4 at the time having won the toss and chosen to bat. After losing opener Tom Gillespie for a ninth ball duck, Jake Woolley made 22, Adam Maharaj-Newman hit a run-a-ball 38 containing nine fours, and Dave Draper smashed 30 off 23 balls with two boundaries and three sixes.

That was one of three Premier League matches to be abandoned on Saturday, the others being Chichester Priory Park versus Three Bridges and East Grinstead against Horsham. Worthing and Brighton & Hove played out a draw, while Cuckfield beat Preston Nomads to go 22 points at the top of the fledgling table.

Standings (all played two matches): 1 Cuckfield 60pts, 2 Roffey 38, 3 Worthing 38, 4 Horsham 36, 5 Preston Nomads 23, 6 Brighton & Hove 21, 7 Chichester Priory Park 20, 8 East Grinstead 20, 9 HASTINGS PRIORY 20, 10 Three Bridges 16.
