Rudd is delighted to be selected and sees it as a real opportunity to cement her place in the England set-up. The squad will contest three T20s and four one-day internationals.

“It’s very exciting - I’m very happy to be a part of the team,” said Rudd. “I thought I’d make the squad after having a decent season, but it’s still quite nerve-racking waiting for that call.

“It’s a great chance for me to repay the faith the selectors have shown in me and I’ll get to test myself against some strong opposition. The climate will also be a challenge.”

Rudd and her team-mates will be in South Africa for two weeks, with a special one-off ODI against the hosts’ national women’s side on October 21 the marquee encounter.
