Hastings Priory’s unusual run of results continued with defeat at home to Horsham yesterday (Saturday).

The 34-run loss was Priory’s fourth successive Sussex Cricket League Premier Division reverse at Horntye Park, a statistic in marked contrast to their three consecutive away victories.

Although beaten, it certainly wasn’t all doom and gloom for Priory because they picked up a healthy haul of points against second-placed opposition with Elliot Hooper the star of the show.

The teenage spinner continued his fine form by taking 6-80 from 24 overs as Horsham were all out for 234 after choosing to bat. Adam Barton, Mick Glazier and Dave Lowery chipped in with a wicket each, while James Johnson (57 off 51 balls) and Sam Attfield (54) led the way for Horsham.

Priory were dismissed for 200 in reply as although seven of the top eight reached double figures, none were able to compile the big score needed to record their first home victory of the season.

Lowery top-scored with 38, while Adam Maharaj-Newman (34), Hooper (27 not out off 19 balls), Tom Gillespie and Byron Gould (25 each) provided support. Michael Munday took six wickets and Stuart Whittingham four. See Friday’s Hastings Observer for a full report and reaction.
