St Andrews prevail in ‘Battle of the Saints’
Captain Ellie Clark won the toss and asked St. Peters to bat first with Ellie wishing to chase a total and Ellie started the ball rolling with a run out off the first ball.
Smart thinking from Miranda Pierpoint fielding the ball cleanly and calmly threw to the non-strikers end for Ellie to remove the bails and run out the number 2 batter who was a little too eager in her backing up. Daisy Rueby bowled St. Peters danger batter in the next over with Adeline Preston picking the third wicket in the third over. Miranda continued with the fourth wicket in the fourth over. Then with sharp fielding and good line and length bowling Saint’s restricted St. Peters to just 50 runs.

Hide AdSaint’s now just needed to keep their heads and bat sensibly and both Izzy Deamer and Ellie Clark were up to the task, both retired not out with 16 & 17 and with extra’s Saint’s just needed a few runs required. With more wides and Saint’s passing their total, a last over collapse saw four wickets fall as Adeline Preston, Miranda Pierpoint, Lauren Wickens and Daisy Rueby all failed to score as they looked to hit out and enjoy themselves. With Beth Coffey clipping the final ball for 2 runs Saint’s had totalled 67 runs for a comfortable victory.
Many congratulations to the team who received the winners shield from the Sussex Director of Womens Cricket, Charlotte Burton.
The victory being thoroughly deserved for some terrific indoor performances the girls attention now turns to a very busy outdoor season.
