Davis continues fine form

Mark Davis continued his excellent start to the World Snooker season with another win today (Tuesday).

Fresh off his run to the semi-finals of the Wuxi Classic and victory at the Six Red World Championship, the St Leonards cueman saw off Jack Lisowski 5-2 in round one of the Australian Goldfields Open.

Seeded in a full ranking event for the first time, world number 18 Davis got off to another excellent start. He raced through the first three frames with some sizeable breaks, not giving his opponent a look in.

But Lisowski, the world number 40 who lives in Romford where he practises with Judd Trump, gave himself hope by napping the fourth frame on the black to trail 3-1 at the interval.

Frame five was also tight before Davis pulled away on the colours to go within one of victory at 4-1. Left-handed qualifier Lisowski, 21, stayed alive at 4-2 by winning frame six in a single visit.

Davis clinched frame seven fairly comfortably, though, to complete his latest victory and set up a second round showdown against home favourite Neil Robertson, the 2010 World Champion, on Thursday.
