Davis eases into World Open

Mark Davis continued his good start to the snooker season by cruising into the venue stage of the World Open.

The St Leonards cueman chalked up a quick-fire 3-0 victory over Jamie Jones in the final round of the qualifiers on Tuesday afternoon.

Jones, a 22-year-old from Neath who is up to 70th on the provisional rankings, hadn't dropped a frame in the previous two rounds, but proved no match for the world no.26, who sealed victory with a break of 122.

Davis, 38, advances to the venue stage in Glasgow from September 18-26 of a tournament which replaces the Grand Prix and boasts a series of new features, including best-of-five frame matches and a random draw.

Bexhill-based Jimmy Robertson, meanwhile, was edged out 3-2 by Simon Bedford in his opening match, while another man with local connections, James Loft, lost 3-0 to Xiao Guodong in round one.
