Davis shocks Ding in China

Mark Davis shocked home favourite Ding Junhui this afternoon (Tuesday).

The St Leonards snooker player pulled off a 5-2 victory over the Chinese world number 11 in round one of the Wuxi Classic.

The first two frames were shared before 19th-ranked Davis opened the third with a 61 only for Ding to come back and pinch it. Davis took the fourth with runs of 39 and 85, however, to level at the interval.

Davis opened the next with a 32 en route to taking a 3-2 lead and then pulled through a tight sixth frame. A break of 39 in frame seven completed victory over a player who beat him three times last season.

His reward is a second round tie against Jamie Burnett, the world number 39 from Scotland who knocked out former world champion Neil Robertson 5-1 earlier today. That match will take place on Thursday afternoon.
