Davis targets Crucible place

Snooker star Mark Davis is bidding to book his place in the televised stage of the sport’s premier event.

The St Leonards potter will line-up in the final round of the Betfred.com World Championship qualifiers at the English Insitute of Sport, Sheffield, on Saturday.

Davis, the world no.18, will face Robert Milkins in a tough-looking best-of-19 frames match with the first session starting at 10am and the second at 7pm.

Milkins, the world no.37 from Gloucester, knocked out Stephen Maguire and reigning World Champion John Higgins en route to the semi-finals of the Haikou World Open six weeks ago.

And the 36-year-old knocked in a 147 break as he saw off world no.46 Xiao Guodong, from China, 10-4 in the penultimate round yesterday (Wednesday).

But Davis himself is enjoying another solid season having qualified for five of the seven ranking events so far, plus the PTC Grand Final, as well as reaching the Championship League winners group.

The televised stage of the Betfred.com World Championship will take place at the famous Crucible Theatre in Sheffield from April 21-May 7. If Davis gets there, he will face one of the 16 seeds in the first round.
