The St Leonards potter was a 6-4 winner in his second round tie against Liam Highfield yesterday (Sunday) and will face Joe Perry in the last 32 on Tuesday evening.

World number 19 Davis made an excellent start to the match, winning the first frame without conceding a point thanks to breaks of 57 and 65 before coming from 46 points behind to clinch the second with a run of 74.

Although 83rd-ranked Highfield edged frame three on the pink, Davis took the fourth on the brown to lead 3-1 at the interval and extended his advantage further courtesy of a 91 break in frame five.

Highfield refused to lie down, though, and grabbed the next three frames with a top break of 59 to level at 4-4. But Davis only conceded one point in winning frame nine aided by a 79 break and sealed victory by clinching the next with a top run of 40.

Davis, who saw off Jak Jones 6-2 in round one last Thursday, was a semi-finalist in the same event two years ago. As previously reported, Bexhill-based Jimmy Robertson lost 6-0 to Mark Williams in his second round clash on Saturday night.
