The St Leonards potter defeated Neil Robertson 3-0 in his final Championship League group two match to stay alive in the invitation competition played at Crondon Park Golf Club, Essex.

Davis compiled breaks of 40, 32 and 34 in clinching his third victory over Australian break-building machine Robertson this season. He also beat him in the final of the Six-Reds World Championship in Thailand and General Cup in Hong Kong.

The victory ensured Davis finished fifth in a seven-man group made up entirely of top 17 ranked players. He moves on to group three later in the season, while the bottom two players are eliminated.

Having reached the semi-finals of group one on Tuesday, Davis began group two the following day with a 134 break en route to a 2-0 lead against Shaun Murphy. Former world champion Murphy hit back with a maximum 147 break, however, before completing a 3-2 victory with a run of 93.

Davis lost his three remaining matches on Wednesday, going down 3-1 to Ali Carter and Judd Trump, and 3-2 to Joe Perry. But it was a completely different story today as the world number 14 beat World Championship runner-up Barry Hawkins 3-0 with breaks of 102 and 124 before repeating the result against Robertson.
