IT WAS an ask ultimately too tough when Worthing were drawn away to Henley on Sunday in hockey's Mixed Trophy first round.

Henley, whose men and women play in the South League, a grade above Worthing's teams, won 4-2, so Worthing now drop into the Plate on March 9.

Soon 2-0 down, Worthing replied with a super goal. Alex Warner's crossfield aeriel pass found Dan Ginnaw who had sprung forward from midfield. He played a one-two with skipper David Edmondson just outside the circle, and despatched the ball into the far corner.

As if that was not temerity enough, Warner's drag flick levelled the scores before half-time.

It was six minutes from the end of the game before Henley could be sure of progress. They edged in front and added a fourth as Worthing pushed up to try to salvage the game.

Afterwards Edmondson commented: "EWe went behind in the first half just through losing the ball in midfield and exposing ourselves to their counter attack.

"But they have a very strong squad, a very solid team. We came back well, though and scored a great goal. Then in the second half, Binnsy (Chris Binns] made some great saves to keep us in it. After they went 3-2 ahead

Anyway we lost 4-2. Went 2-0 down early on, They had a , when a cross field aerial from Alex W was taken by Dan Ginnaw who had sprung forward from midfield. He played a one two with me just outside the D and as he collected the return, dispatched it into the far corner. We drew level before half time from an Alex Warner drag flick.

during the 2nd half, but then with 6 minutes to go they edged in front, and our last ditch attempts to try and win it (did have one short corner unlucky not to be awarded a another) saw us push on, and concede the 4th. Special mention for our 2 ladies 2nd XI players, Brenda and Theresa who both did an excellent job in central midfield.

We now drop into the Plate competition which has the first round on 9th March. Draw to take place after 2nd round of the Trophy on 24th February.
