The two Hollington pairs and one trio had already exceeded all expectations by winning the qualifying round to represent the South East region.

It was also back-to-back finals for three of the gymnasts, Karma Corbett, Zara Hyland and Jamie Barton, the first time the club has achieved this.

The trio of Hyland, Corbett and Keeleigh Tribbeck took to the floor first on Saturday. This was only the second time the girls had ever competed together having called on Corbett at short notice after usual team-mate Maddy Thwaites was unable to compete.

They did not disappoint, however, producing a grade two group routine worthy of a National Final appearance and narrowly missing out on a podium finish in fourth place.

Next to compete was the newly-formed pair of Holly Weaver and Amy Robertson in the grade two women’s pairs. The girls had made it through some tough opposition at the regional qualifiers.

Understandably nervous competing at such a prestigious event for the first time, a few wobbles during their routine to All That Jazz cost them dearly, but the experience gained was invaluable and expectations are high for them both in the upcoming season.

Last to perform were Jamie Barton and Jaimi Phillips in the grade two mixed pairs. High hopes were riding on the pair, having performed strongly all season.

Barton had also won the national title with Luke Fisher last year so was feeling supremely confident about the finals. Their routine was well-received and a season’s best score earned them an outstanding bronze medal.
