EAGLES FACE INJURY CRISIS

Eastbourne Speedway promoter Jon Cook was today (April 18) trying to put a team together for Friday's home match against Oxford.

His plans were thrown into confusion were news came that heatleader Adam Shields had suffered a serious injury while riding in Poland.

Shields is thought to have broken his pelvis and will be out of action for some time.

Eastbourne were going into the match (8pm start) without former world champion Nicki Pedersen, who is riding the next day in the Slovenian GP.

Peter Karlsson has been booked as a guest to replace Pedersen for the match.

Eastbourne have already lost Brent Werner with a broken collarbone and have drafted in Andrew Appleton as a temporary replacement.

It is not known at this stage what Cook will do to cover Shields' absence.
