Eleven medal haul from European championships

THE Kuk Sool Won of Hastings Martial Arts Club continues its tournament success.

Once again eight members from the club entered the European Championships and came back with an impressive eleven-medal haul.

Having faced competitors from as far a field as Italy, Germany, Holland and Spain and categories of over 30 competitors and crowds in excess of 1,000, this was an impressive achievement for such a small team.

The team's tournament success reflected the dedication, commitment and training of the participating club members.

This was evident in the club gaining two gold medal winners and thus two European Champions in self-defence at 2nd Dan black belt level, involving defending against multiple attacks and defending against knife attacks.

The gold in breaking at brown belt level, involving breaking two one inch pine boards with right and left head high spin kicks, was scooped, as was a silver medal in the self-defence category at 1st Dan black belt level. This was the result of a well-executed and controlled performance.

The excellent instruction and training provided by the clubs' instructors in self-defence and sparring was reflected in the large number of third places gained in these areas by team members.
