Familiar look to East Sussex summit

THE top three divisions in the East Sussex Cricket League all have a familiar look to them with local teams helping to make the early running.

Crowhurst Park head the top flight by a couple of points from Glynde despite being held to a frustrating draw in their latest match against Seaford.

The leaders amassed 235-9 thanks to good knocks from skipper Paul Brookes (39), Martin Barry (38), Graham Corke (33 not out) and Paul Lindfield (31).

Seaford started disastrously in reply, losing a wicket early on before slipping to 58-3. J. Goddard (50 not out) was sent out under strict instructions to play for a draw and he did just that as they finished on 184-7. Victor Walcott (3-63) and Keith Hobbs (2-21) enjoyed most success with the ball.

Iden lie joint top in Division Two with Hellingly and St Peter's following a 75-win away to Uckfield Anderida. The visitors were dismissed for 167 with Michael White (42) and Martin Curd (60 not out) providing the bulk of the runs. Uckfield had no answer in reply to the bowling of David White (6-44) and were shot out for 92.

Battle sit at the foot of Division Two after stumbling to a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Ditchling. Chasing a meagre total of 108, Ditchling had little trouble in securing victory in 26 overs.

Rye retained joint top spot in Division Three with a resounding 122-run defeat of Hailsham. John Barden smashed an undefeated 105 to steer Rye to a decent total of 211-7 and then Karl Khan (4-9) and Adam McDonagh (3-14) helped to blitz the Hailsham batting for just 89.

Little Common Ramblers and Pett contested a low-scoring draw in Division Three. Ramblers totalled 154 thanks to Ally Burnett (70), while the visitors finished on 115-9.
