FOOTBALL: County League round-up (April 8)

WICK Football Club moved back into the top five of the County League on Tuesday after a 2-1 win at Three Bridges.

The victory delighted Wick boss Carl Stabler, who said: "We played very well as Bridges are one of the best teams we've faced this season. They had the better of the first half and we had the better of the second half. The lads all worked very hard, as they have since Christmas, and I'm really pleased with them."

Liam Ahearne gave Bridges the lead, following a corner on 18 minutes.

Wick's Ruben French hit the woodwork with an excellent free kick before he lobbed home the equaliser seven minutes before half-time. Clinton More then got the winner midway through the second half when he netted from a tight angle after rounding the Bridges keeper.

On Saturday, Wick had drawn 1-1 at home to Ringmer. Scott Murfin, with his 37th goal of the season, struck for Wick.

Wick now have four games in the next six days, starting tonight (Thursday) against Chichester in the Brighton Charity Cup semi-final. They then host East Grinstead on Saturday, travel to Arundel on Monday and are at Crawley Down on Wednesday.

Stabler said: "It's hard but a lot of teams are in the same boat."

Clymping, with striker David Gaskin in goal, pulled off an excellent result in County League Division 2 on Saturday when they thumped leaders Rye 5-1.

After keeper Matt Paice was injured before the game, Clymping led 1-0 at half-time before they crashed home four goals in the second half and Rye had Duncan McArthur red-carded at 2-0.

Billy Rayner opened the scoring when he netted from the penalty spot for the third match in a row. Richy Moss hit the second, substitute Aaron Meehan struck a brace before fellow substitute Tom Bunting hit a late goal.

Clymping boss Dominic Di Paola said: "We played really really well and I was over the moon with the result. They did have a player sent off but I think we played even better when they had 11 men on the field.

"The second half of the season has been great and only dropping eight points is promotion form and we're good enough to be there, but we had a shocking start to the season."

CLYMPING: Gaskin; Hand, D.Di Paola, Young, Stokes; Biggs Castro, Rayner, Shelley; Ghent, Moss. Subs: Meehan (Rayner 70), Bunting (Biggs 80).

Arundel slipped nearer the Division 1 relegation zone after a 4-1 defeat at new league leaders Chichester on Easter Monday.

Mullets lie fifth from bottom, but are six points above the drop zone and have games in hand.

After early Arundel possession came to nothing, Callum Cutler put Chi ahead from the penalty spot after a Ben O'Connor foul on 28 minutes, and Barry McCoy doubled the lead shortly afterwards.

On 50 minutes, Rob Grove was fouled from Russell Hardwell's cross, and Scott Tipper fired home the resultant penalty to give Mullets renewed hope.

But Jamie Ford added Chichester's third 10 minutes later and, with Mullets pushing for a way back into the game, James Temple added the fourth to complete the scoring 20 minutes from time.

Arundel manager Richard Towers said: "It was a disappointing result. When you're down there, it doesn't happen for you and unfortunately that was the case for us.

"We had a lot of possession and chances, but didn't do enough with them. Their first goal knocked the stuffing out of us as we played well up until then."

Arundel assistant manager Simon Butler has resigned from his post, and said: "It is with regret I have resigned as assistant manager due to personal reasons and my current workload in other areas.

"I would like to thank Rich Towers and Bob Marchant (chairman) for many enjoyable years at the club and wish them both, as well as all the players and working staff, the very best of luck for the remainder of this and future seasons."
