FOOTBALL: Former Albion captain Danny Cullip's weekly column (December 17)

WE'RE heading into the busy Christmas football schedule and it's one that a lot of people have opinions on.

Some people enjoy the Christmas games and others not so much but it's part of the business we're in and we're privileged to do it.

It has always been very traditional over Christmas to have a lot of games and maybe a bit of time off would give those with a smaller squad a chance to rest up.

Maybe a break wouldn't be so bad to try. They do it in Scotland, so it could be tried for a season to see how it goes.

However, Christmas is a time where a lot of clubs make a good amount of money. With lots of people off work, they head out and watch local games.

The Boxing Day game is one I think we should keep, although it does mean the players need to be in training on Christmas Day. It's such a tradition that it would be a shame to lose.

Personally, I've always lived quite local to the clubs I've been playing for, so I've managed to spend some time with the family, as well as getting into work as well, but some of the lads used to have much longer drives. Maybe, after Boxing Day, the next game could be left until the New Year to give the players some time to recoup.

The Personal Best course has finished now until the next one starts in January and the lads have all really enjoyed it. Five or six of them are doing contracted stewarding work at Brighton already. And we have 11 signed up for the next course, eight of whom from recommendations from people who have completed the course.

I was out training with my Worthing Academy boys on Tuesday morning and I honestly don't think I have ever been that cold in my life.

We've been washed out the previous few weeks and now it's a case of being frozen out. We had a good practice game on Tuesday and were meant to be playing a home match at Worthing United on Wednesday night if it didn't freeze.

On Monday, a three-day fun football Christmas course starts at the Thomas A Becket Middle School in Worthing. Dave Green will be running the course for five to 12-year-olds and he can be contacted at Albion in the Community on the number below.
