FOOTBALL: Ghent stars in Arundel's win over Pagham

ARUNDEL Football Club crashed home five second-half goals on Tuesday evening to progress into the John O'Hara Cup quarter-finals 5-2 past Pagham.

Mullets were 2-0 down at half-time and keeper Lee Arnell went off with a groin injury at the break, so midfielder Jason Wimbleton took over in goal.

But, with Arundel fearing the worst, half-time substitute Richard Ghent inspired Arundel to their eighth successive win and through to the last eight.

He firstly laid the ball off to Josh Biggs, who thundered the ball home from 25 yards on 55 minutes.

Matt Axell coolly equalised six minutes later, before Ghent crossed for Howard Neighbour to give Mullets the lead on 72 minutes.

Ghent then fed Gary Norgate for Arundel's fourth 10 minutes from time before Selsey were reduced to 10 men. Sean Towers, the son of Arundel boss Richard, was red-carded for two bookings and, from the resulting free kick, Mike Huckett hit Mullets' fifth from 25 yards.

In the first half, Rob Wimble fired Pagham into a 15th-minute lead, which Michael Frangou doubled on 30 minutes.

The closest Arundel went was when Norgate hit the post five minutes before half-time.

Mullets assistant-manager Simon Butler said: "We didn't really perform in the first half, but were superb in the second.

"We played at a high tempo, and Richard Ghent had an excellent game."
