Safe at last! Burgess Hill secured their Isthmian League south east division status for another season with a last-day 0-0 draw at home to Beckenham.

Their point – coupled with VCD’s failure to win at East Grinstead Town – meant Lewis Taylor’s Hillians finished one point and one place above the relegation play-offs, which will involve VCD and Haywards Heath Town play one-off games versus the runners-up in the SCFL and SECFL to decide who will be in the division next season.

At the More Than Tyres Stadium, there were great scenes at the end as players, fans and staff celebrated Hill’s escape from the threat of relegation.

Chris Neal – in his final game before stepping down as club photographer – captured the scenes which you can see on this page and the ones linked. Get the latest from the Hillians and Haywards Heath in the Mid Sussex Times, out on Thursday.
