It was all about Billy Vigar when two of his teams met in the Sussex Transport Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

Eastbourne Borough and Chichester staged a tribute to the 21-year-old striker before their tie at Priory Lane, and proceeds from the match are to go to the London air ambulance service.

Billy died in hospital last month, five days after suffering a serious head injury when he collided with a pitchside concrete wall in Chichester City’s match at Wingate and Finchley.

He had played for Borough, Hastings and Chichester – as well as Arsenal and Derby County’s U21 sides – and Borough owner Simon Leslie has suggested the Sussex Senior Cup be renamed the Billy Vigar Cup as a lasting tribute to him.

On the pitch, a good game finished 2-2 but Eastbourne went through by winning 4-2 on penalties.
