Allan keen on extended Blues stay

The Scottish ace made his second Blues bow in last night’s 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United after sealing a month’s loan from West Brom.

Allan was outstanding at Bramall Lane and gave the unbeaten Blades a torrid time for long periods with his trickery.

That’s despite the 20-year-old not even having time to train with his new team-mates after completing the move.

The attacking midfielder made himself a favourite among Pompey fans during 15 appearances on loan last season.

He had little hesitation in linking up with Michael Appleton again after a similar stint with MK Dons came to a close. And the talented Glasgow-born player promised he would be keen to stay at Fratton Park on a longer-term basis than his current agreement.

Allan said: ‘I jumped at the chance to come back when it came up.

‘I get on really well with the gaffer and I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club when I was last here.

‘These things happen in football but it was a no-brainer for me.

‘It just happened over the weekend but I’m happy to be back.

‘I was at MK Dons but the loan period came to an end and I went back to West Brom.

‘I wanted to be here because of the fans and I know it’s a big club.

‘There’s a good gaffer here with a good squad, so I had no doubts about coming back.

‘Hopefully I can extend the loan if things go well for me and the club.

‘I’d be happy to do that if the chance came up.’

Allan admitted the accelerated nature of his move to Pompey led to some testing moments during last night’s game.

The former Dundee United man joked he kept getting the names of his team-mates mixed up.

That didn’t stop him producing an excellent performance, though – and nearly scoring on one world-class run from his own half.

Allan saw enough from the performance in Yorkshire to suggest there’s promise moving forward. He said: ‘I arrived yesterday and didn’t have a chance to train with the players.

‘I ended up getting the names of the players mixed up during the game!

‘It’s a different squad to the last time I was here but you can see there’s ability here still.

‘I thought we worked really hard as a group – and we deserved something from the game.

‘One slip was costly but we should have got something from the match.

‘Given time together, we could develop into a good team and I think we showed that.

‘I think we have showed that we could be a match for anybody in this division.’
