Appy: Strikers' graft key to win

Michael Appleton praised the work-rate of his front men as Pompey triumphed at Yeovil.

The Blues picked up their second win on the bounce with a 2-1 success at Huish Park tonight.

They were good value for that as they carved out a host of chances.

Appleton thought the efforts of Wes Thomas and Izale McLeod stood out in the win.

They gave the Glovers constant problems throughout.

Appleton said: ‘The first half was very good.

‘The work-rate of the front two was phenomenal and that was the first thing I said to them at half-time.

‘My only gripe at half time was we were not clinical enough.

‘We had a bit of spirit about us and did enough to get back in front and see the game out.

‘I was always confident we’d get the win.’
