Arundel sign Bibb but wait on Huckett

ARUNDEL Football Club have signed Adam Bibb from local-rivals Littlehampton ahead of the upcoming season, but manager Brett Torode is waiting to see if influential midfield Mike Huckett will re-sign with Mullets.

The Mill Road side have retained virtually the whole of last year’s playing squad ahead of the new County League Division 1 campaign.

Defender Bibb, who signed for Golds at the start of last season and ended up playing infrequently for the reserves towards the end of the campaign, has joined, while Torode is hoping to add at least a couple more in the coming weeks.

One player Mullets are still sweating on is Huckett who joined them from Ryman League side Worthing mid-way through last season.

He is yet to decide on his future after receiving offers from teams in higher leagues, although Mullets are hoping he will return to Mill Road.

Torode said: “We have signed Adam Bibb from Littlehampton and there are one or two others that are umming and ahhing, it’s what it’s like at this time of the year.

“We are not sure on Mike Huckett at the moment and it’s understandable as he’s a decent player.

“Most of them (from last year) are already signed on and Dave Herbert has said he’s going to sign once he’s back as he’s away at the moment.

“I’m pleased with everyone that has signed on. If we get Mike it’s a bonus, but if not then we’ll go without him.

“We’ve had another one training with us and he hasn’t missed a session yet and another one that is injured at the moment.

“I’m pleased with how it’s going. There’s another couple of weeks before we start our friendlies on the 20th (July) and I don’t mind that. It’s how I have always done it, train for three or four weeks and then get into our friendlies.”

Arundel’s pre-season matches kick-off at home against Epsom & Ewell on Saturday, July 20. They also host Petersfield, Romsey and Steyning.
