Wick trailed 4-0 after 28 minutes of the SCFL Premier Division match, got the score back to 4-3, then went 5-3 down before they got the final goal of a crazy game just before the final whistle.

Wick boss Lee Baldwin was left frustrated with the defeat and said: “We had so many chances in the second half that we could have won the game, it could have easily been nine or ten we scored.

“It was the opening half-an-hour that cost us as we were lucky it was just 4-0.

“If anyone had turned up and just watched the last hour of the game, they’d have thought we’re a very good side but it was the first half that cost us.”

Goals from Oliver Leslie, Michael Belli, Daniel Sullivan and James Day gave the hosts a 4-0 lead inside 30 minutes.

Ash Harper got Wick’s first goal back just past the hour, before Rob Brown’s header and Rob Hutchings’ tap-in after he rounded the keeper made it 4-3 after 87 minutes.

Josh Brown made it 5-3 in the first minute of injury-time, before Rob Brown’s second – from the penalty spot – made it 5-4 with just seconds remaining.

Wick entertain Haywards Heath in the FA Vase on Saturday and then travel to Littlehampton in the league on Tuesday.

Baldwin said: “Saturday will be tough but we tend to play better against the better sides and we’ve got nothing to lose. Then Tuesday is one that everyone is looking forward to.”

WICK: Boughton; Eyres, Bingham, Ediker, Playle-Howard, Bradshaw, Williamson, Brown, Harper, Hutchings, Chick. Subs: Madden (Bradshaw 45), Brazil, Dunlop, Hallett, Baldwin.
