Barnes’ header on the hour took Rustington to a 1-0 home victory in the Southern Combination League Division 2 encounter.

Beeding boss Josh Baldock was left hugely frustrated with the defeat and said: “They had a game plan and executed it really well. We could have been two goals up inside five minutes, then it would have been a different story.

“We had the majority of the ball and several chances but Rustington punished us for missing those.

“Other than my goalkeeper having one save to make and them scoring, Rustington did not create any other chances whatsoever.

“It was just one of those days and it seems to be the way things are going for us at the minute.

“Were not a team that keeps too many clean sheets, so when we are not taking our chances and conceding then we are going to find things difficult.”

Beeding were quick out of the blocks and could have been two up inside five minutes. First, Bradley Hatchett was pipped to the ball by a Rustington defender with the goal gaping after 90 seconds.

Then three minutes later, Jamie Rowland fired wide from ten yards.

Those misses came back to haunt Beeding as Barnes headed the game’s only goal on the hour.

Upper Beeding are back in action on Saturday with a home clash against Montpelier Villa.
