Ashton Leigh’s second half goal secured a 1-0 win over the Hornets, getting the Rocks up and running after a 2-1 loss at Haringey had made it a poor start to the Isthmian premier season.

Bognor are still without a number of injured players and have had to sign another left-back – Tom Cooney – as cover.

Pearce said: “In our first two league games we conceded four goals and not for one of them did the opposition have to play well to score.

“So to keep a clean sheet and get the win at Horsham is very pleasing.

“We are still a transitional side, very young, and we have six players missing, so we are probably going to carry on being inconsistent.

“In no game would I be surprised if we won, drew or lost.”

The Rocks go to Southern League premier side Hayes and Yeading Utd in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday still without injured quartet James Crane, Sam Dowridge, Jason Parish and Alfie Lis.

In addition Calvin Davies is away and propsective Pompey academy loanee Joe Hancott’s arrival at Nyewood Lane on loan has been held up by injury.

Pearce said: “It would be nice to go a little further in the FA Cup. This year, more than ever, clubs really need that prize money. But it will be a difficult tie.”
