Borough fans asked to lobby government over National League grants

Active discussions and negotiations are continuing on the way forward for the National League season amid a stand-off over government support to enable NL clubs to carry on playing behind closed doors.

The key is the change from grants to loans that clubs are being asked to accept as the second half of the season begins. Many say they cannot play on unless cash aid comes in grant forms - and say loans will not be possible to pay back.

Further meetings are being held and EBFC said supporters should rest assured they would keep them informed when thereweare firm developments.

The Priory Lane club added: "Meanwhile we believe that the underlying issue of funding – and whether it takes the form of grants or of loans – remains very much alive.

"Today an initiative from Dagenham and Redbridge FC is proposing a petition to the government, through Change.org - EBFC fully endorse this initiative and we strongly urge supporters to sign it.

"While the clubs will continue to pursue their paths through official channels, a petition such as this is a great opportunity for fans to have their own voice. Do please consider signing it. The process is simple. We thank you all for your messages of support and for your patience. Keep the faith!"

The petition started by Dagenham and Redbridge says: "The Board of the National League have agreed to mount a campaign to try and persuade the Government to change its mind on loans over grants. Part of this campaign includes establishing an online petition on Change.org. The link for this online petition can be found below.

"We’re asking all clubs to immediately publish this on their website and urge their supporters to not only sign the petition but share it as widely as possible. The effect that this pandemic has had on all our 66 community clubs is immeasurable, and we are now only asking the government to extend the support which was originally offered."
