Sussex League division three

Bosham were in fine fettle to secure an emphatic win against rock-bottom Clymping and move back into second place in the table.

The Blues have conceded a bucketful of goals this season and Bosham gave them little respite, going two in front with less than ten minutes on the clock. First Jake Lafferty showed what he can do rounding off a move inspired by Graeme Dowden, who went on a surging run from the back deep into the Blues half. He found Lafferty with a simple pass and the striker cut in from the right and fired an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.

Next Marco Giambelardini completed another scorching Reds move. Adam Brett and top scorer Dave Storey were involved as the ball found its way to the feet of Bosham playmaker, who needed no second invitation to slot past keeper Rhys Griffiths.

Joe Charman and Ashley Corby tried their best for Clymping but the defensive partnership of Nick Edgington and Dave Bryant were not to be beaten and the Reds almost went three up as Gary English went close to a spectacular own goal.

The second half was less than two minutes old when Brett got in on the act to add the third in sublime style.Defenders backed off and the striker was almost invited to shoot, which he did from the edge of the area – and his effort flew into the bottom corner leaving Griffiths stunned.

Worse followed for the luckless Griffiths as he was forced off with an injury to be replaced by substitute keeper Craig Seacombe.

Storey was the next on the mark, bursting clear of a dispirited defence and finishing easily to give the Reds a four-goal cushion by the hour mark.

In the final quarter of the game, Dowden slotted a superb free kick and, late on, Storey wrapped things up with his second to make it six of the best.

This week’s task against Southwick at Walton Lane will be an altogether harder task.

BOSHAM: Hasted, Dowden, Bryant, Edgington, Brett, Probee, Lafferty, Giambelardini, Storey, Docherty, Mullen. Subs: Barnes, Redman, Carter.

Selsey’s search for a victory goes on after a loss at Shoreham.

Shoreham took the lead midway through the first-half when Alex Laing saw his shot deflect in off the foot of Dejaun Best.

Best should have made it two just five minutes later after Kai Bichard crossed for him but he blazed his shot over from six yards out.

The Mussels were awarded a penalty on 66 minutes when Alex Laing was felled.

Laing then stepped up and slammed home the resulting penalty to make it two.

Shoreham made the three points safe with ten minutes left on the clock as Laing slammed home his second of the game.

The home side might well have added another two goals to the scoreline in the final minutes.

First, it was Mark Goldson who shot wide from just eight yards out and then it was Laing who shot straight at the visitors’ goalkeeper as he went in search of his second hat-trick for the club.

Selsey host Loxwood on Saturday.
