Bosham cup hopes dashed - but Sidlesham's live on

Bosham have slipped out of the Sussex Intermediate Cup to Chichester reserves - but Sidlesham's challenge continues.

Bosham 1 Chichester City Utd Reserves 4

Intermediate Cup third round

Bosham rued missed opportunities which saw their cup hopes come to a disappointing end.

City took a shock lead after only four minutes. Paul Miller showed a good touch to burst into the Bosham box and his shot was too good for keeper Michael Rodway.

Minutes later James Bracher went close for the Reds.

Bosham started to dominate and created good chances – but for once the finishing was poor.

Bosham missed the pace of injured top scorer Kieran Hartley up front.

Shortly after the break a calamitous mix-up gifted the visitors a second as Rodway and Jack Hancock allowed Miller to sneak in and prod the ball past the two stunned players and into the net.

Bosham saw chance after chance go by, hitting the woodwork four times through Ben Blanshard and Joe Hancock. City got the all-important goal they craved when Morgan Forry latched on to a ball over the top and delightfully chipped the onrushing Rodway to send the green and whites delirious.

Sidlesham 4 Ferring 2

Third round

A goal by Ferring’s Chad Milner on nine minutes was the shock that got Sidlesham playing their normal passing game.

James Brown equalised with a header from a corner on 28 minutes and Sidlesham at times looked like the side in the higher league, with their touch, passing and movement impressing.

The start of the second half saw Brad Miles putting them ahead on 49 minutes. John Philips added a third on 58 minutes.

Chad Milner’s second for Ferring came in the 75th minute as a result of poor defending, even though Sidlesham seemed to be in control. Sids had a man sent off and Ferring had renewed heart, but their hopes were dashed when Andy Hounsome scored on 80 minutes.

SIDS: Keen, Simmonds, Carragher, Grantham, Jones, Rawlins, Hounsome, Miles, Brown, Bayley, Philips, Barnes, Derry, Dennis, Whitmore, Low.
