Bosham find a spark to light up clash with Electricity

After a thumping defeat to Littlehampton a couple of weeks ago and their last game being washed out by the weather, Bosham finally got back on the pitch and rescued a point from a 1-1 draw away to Brighton Electricity.

A late strike from Michael Anderson snared a valuable point for the Reds but it could have been three.

The game, on the artificial surface on a sunny afternoon, started with both sides looking cagey. The visitors had the first opportunity on after only nine minutes when Alex Barnes was put in on goal by Adam Thompson. Bearing down on keeper Guillermo Arestizabal, the Bosham striker pushed hi shot wide.

Brighton Electric relied on the predatory instincts of striker Joe Stone but Charlie Cooper was more than a match for him and the home side struggled to find a route to goal with Bosham keeper Harley Redman relatively untroubled.

Bosham had another good chance on the quarter-hour when Pat Bulbeck linked up with Barnes. Pushed wide by Dylan Friday, Bulbeck still got his shot off but dragged it wide from a tight angle.

Bosham were a little nervy at the back despite the presence of Nick Edgington and in a Brighton counter attack Friday shot from long-range but Redman saved.

The deadlock was finally broken on the half-hour. With little pressure on him, Cooper tried to clear but sliced the ball back over the head of Redman and into the net for an extraordinary own goal.

The interval brought a rocket from manager Tony Hancock and they came close to levelling a few minutes into the second period. Bulbeck made a surging run into the box and cut the ball back to Barnes but Luke Murphy smothered the shot.

Bosham continued to dominate the match and Conor Crabb hit a thunderous free-kick from long distance narrowly over the bar, then minutes later, Jack Hancock burst through but saw his shot deflected just wide.

Dan Sporle almost made Bosham pay when through on goal but skewed his shot over the bar.

The introduction of Lewis Rustell into the mix with 20 minutes to go made a difference for the Reds and he had two good opportunities before Bosham drew level with a quarter of the match left.

Barnes worked space on the left side of the box and fired in a cross which Anderson met to slide ball into the bottom corner – his first goal for Bosham.

With injury time approaching Bosham had a chance to nab the points when Rustell won the ball on the edge of the box and sent a low ball into the area but sub Mahmoud Kamate couldn’t get a toe on the ball to divert it into the empty net.
