Boss: We looked leggy

Dom Di Paola felt his Hastings United players ‘looked leggy’ during the defeat at home to Burgess Hill Town last night (Monday).

The U’s were beaten 1-0 by the Hillians in round three of the Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup, with the only goal scored by Lee Harding in the 73rd minute.

United manager Di Paola said: “It was very poor. They made a lot of changes and they looked a lot fresher than us. We seemed to struggle with our legs after playing on Saturday. I thought we looked really leggy and flat really.

“First half I thought we were the better team, but second half we didn’t have anything to go. When we went behind we didn’t have anything to get back in the game. I think they were there for the taking.

“It probably is too quick a turnaround (from Saturday to Monday) if you’ve not got the squad to deal with it. But we can’t make excuses, it’s the same for both teams.”

The defeat ended United’s interest in this season’s knockout competitions and they lie 18th in Ryman Football League Division One South.
