Brace named Rebels manager

Brace came to the club in the summer as Chris White’s assistant and took over as caretaker manager when White quit last month.

He guided Rebels to three wins and one defeat from four games in charge and Worthing confirmed him as manager after Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Crawley Down Gatwick in the Isthmian Cup.

In a club statement, Worthing said: “We were extremely pleased with the quality of candidates that we shortlisted for the position, which gave us a very difficult decision to make.

“All had their strengths that would benefit the current players and club, however, what stood out for us was Lee’s vision for the medium-to-long

term development of Worthing Football Club in the community and his drive to build a strong, sustainable base for the success of Worthing Football

Club, on and off the pitch.

“We have also seen enough, both before and during his caretaking of the current first team, to believe he can keep Worthing playing successful,

attractive football, while, together, we implement these off-field changes.”

Brace said “One individual does not run a squad of over 20 players, it is impossible. Moving forward it is all about the off-the-field management team, as well as all the players involved. I would like to thank everyone for their support, help and encouragement shown to me as we have all equally worked together, and in particular John Meeney who has been exceptional. For such a young coach, his enthusiasm and passion for this football club is infectious.”
