The Sussex County League Division One match between Rye United and Shoreham, and the Division Two Challenge Cup quarter-final involving Bexhill United and Little Common have been declared on after passing afternoon pitch inspections.

A message from Rye’s official Twitter feed read: “@RyeUnited v @ShorehamFC goes ahead. Salts in surprisingly good nick. Wear wellies if watching as paths are a bit wet.”

It will be the second time in less than a month that Rye have hosted Shoreham, although this time all concerned will be hoping to get the game completed after it was abandoned after 10 minutes due to a floodlight failure at the first attempt.

Rye will be desperate to put a stop to back-to-back defeats and start climbing the table. They currently sit a disappointing 11th with 15 points from 12 fixtures. Shoreham are four points and five places worse off having played two fewer matches. Kick-off is 7.45pm.

It’s derby day at The Polegrove as crosstown rivals Bexhill and Common go head-to-head for a place in the league cup last four. Common are fifth in the league with 23 points from 13 matches, four points and two places above their neighbours.

Common will be eager to atone for their disappointing 3-1 loss at home to Oakwood in the league on Saturday, while Bexhill will be aiming to continue the encouraging form which has brought them four points from their last two outings. Kick-off is 7.30pm.
