'Big step up' - Sky pundit reacts to Manchester City interest in Brighton talent

Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood has claimed that switching Brighton for Manchester City would be a “big step up” for midfielder Yves Bissouma.

Reports earlier in the week suggested that the 24-year-old has been identified as a potential summer transfer target for the champions elect, after an impressive campaign for Graham Potter’s men on the south coast.

City stalwart Fernandinho celebrated his 36th birthday earlier in the week, and attentions at the Etihad are beginning to turn towards who could replace him further down the line.

According to Sherwood, however, Bissouma would need to learn how to embody the selflessness that has made the Brazilian such an asset during his time in the north west.

Speaking on Sky Sports News’ Soccer Saturday, the former Tottenham manager said: “He [Bissouma] had a good season.

"It’s a big step up, but it’s a lot easier playing for Manchester City than it is for Brighton struggling at the bottom of the league, when you’ve got so many world class players around you.

"The ambitions are obviously a lot higher.

"Fernandinho knows his limitations. There’s no self-indulgence. He’s a total team player.

"Anyone going in there, like Rodri is now, needs to look at him and learn from him.”

Bissouma has established himself as a key figure in Graham Potter’s plans this season, featuring 32 times in the Premier League already.

His impressive form has reportedly attracted attention from a number of top flight clubs too, with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, and West Ham also linked in recent weeks.
